At least eight people, including three children, have been killed in Russian strikes on Ukraine’s southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, according to regional authorities. At least 16 people were injured, while 12 remain missing.
Ukrainian police said Russian forces targeted residential neighbourhoods with five guided aerial bombs, hitting two residential buildings. Rescue workers are continuing search operations amid fears that more people may be trapped under the rubble.
The strikes came a day after Ukrainian and European officials met in Miami as part of renewed diplomatic efforts to end Russia’s war in Ukraine. Russia has intensified attacks on Ukrainian territory in recent months, resulting in mounting civilian casualties.
