Protests will be barred in parts of Paris on October 22, as the French government braced for a fresh wave of demonstrations in the coming days.
Paris police announced a ban on participants from 0600 to 1800 GMT. The ban covers key areas, including the Elysee Presidential Palace and both Houses of Parliament. Tourist hotspots such as the Louvre Museum and Champs-Elysees are also covered under the ban.
French authorities have sought to reassure the public after the country was swept by violent unrest last weekend. The ongoing crisis started with students protesting high prices and demanding education reform, but it soon escalated, with masked rioters looting shops and clashing with police.
French President Emmanuel Macron will be holding a meeting with the ministers and intelligence officials related to the weekend riots.
The Embassy of India in Paris has issued a safety advisory for Indian nationals amid the ongoing unrest and localised curfews across France, urging them to remain vigilant and avoid protest sites.
The Embassy advised Indian citizens to avoid large gatherings, follow instructions from French authorities and monitor official updates for public transport disruptions. Emergency helpline numbers have also been provided for Indians requiring assistance in Paris and Marseille.
The advisory comes as France prepares for fresh demonstrations on October 24, with French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu promising a massive police deployment.
