A massive fire broke out at a restaurant in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area. The blaze was so devastating that reports indicate 21 people lost their lives in the tragic incident. The Fire Department received information about the fire at around 9:45 a.m., following which several fire tenders were rushed to the spot.
Firefighters rescued nearly 40 people from the entire building, including the basement. Many of them were seriously injured and were shifted to hospitals for treatment. Relief and rescue operations are still underway at the site of the incident.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta have expressed grief over the tragedy. The Prime Minister has announced an ex-gratia compensation of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 to those injured in the incident.
