U.S. President Donald Trump on October 27 suggested that Venezuela could become the 51st U.S. state, citing growing oil cooperation between the two countries.
Speaking at the port of Corpus Christi in Texas, President Trump said Venezuela had vast oil reserves and that major oil companies were investing billions of dollars in the country.
He also announced the arrival of the first 1 million barrels of free Venezuelan oil secured under an agreement between Washington and Caracas.
President Trump added that Venezuelan oil would be refined in Texas and claimed the shipment was being provided at no cost to U.S. taxpayers.
The President also said gasoline and diesel prices would fall for U.S. American consumers, and praised U.S. military personnel for what he described as a victory against Venezuela.
