The United Nations has warned that the world is on track to cross the 1.5°C global warming limit within the next few years, urging governments to take faster action against climate change.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said extreme heat, wildfires and deadly floods are signs of the growing risks from a warming planet.
Guterres called for a faster shift away from fossil fuels, greater use of renewable energy and stronger protection for forests and oceans. He said it is still possible to bring warming back below 1.5°C by the end of the century if countries significantly strengthen their climate efforts.
