Home Minister Amit Shah has said that to emerge as a leader in every sector, India must further strengthen its internal security. Addressing the concluding session of National Security Strategies Conference NSSC in New Delhi yesterday, Mr Shah said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set the goal of a Viksit Bharat by 2047, and the primary prerequisite for a developed India is robust internal security.
He said that had the previous governments foreseen the issues of narcotics, Naxalism, and the challenges in the North East before they escalated into massive crises, the country would not have had to bear their brunt for decades.
The Home Minister said the Government has eliminated the formidable challenges across these three internal security hotspots and the entire credit for this goes to the state police forces, central agencies, and the CAPFs.
He said this NSSC forum should analyse trends for the next 15-20 years to identify potential emerging issues and devise strategies to preempt them.
Mr Shah said the three new criminal justice laws will be implemented 100 per cent within the next year, aiming to ensure the resolution of criminal cases, up to the Supreme Court level within three years and to boost the conviction rate by 25 per cent.
He said, over the past eight months, he visited all states sharing land borders and shared a document outlining a ‘quadrilateral border security approach’ with them.
The Union Home Minister said, the goal is to make the country free of infiltrators in a very short time. He said, this country is not a Dharamshala and only its citizens have the right to reside here as infiltrators pose a threat to national security, the economy and demographic stability.’
The minister said state police forces must implement the ‘Narcotics Control Vision Document 2026-2029’ on the ground to safeguard the new generation working on the three ‘D’s-Detect, Disrupt, and Destroy-to achieve a drug-free India.
He said integrated data banks comprising CCTNS, ICJS, NatGrid, and NAFIS have been established, and young officers should leverage AI for data integration, analysis, and identifying modus operandi to generate actionable intelligence, thereby preempting future challenges.
Mr Shah said the Modi government has strengthened the anti-fugitive mechanism, bringing back approximately 274 fugitives from abroad between 2019 and 2026. He said all states must pursue the goal of bringing fugitives hiding abroad within the ambit of the country’s law.
He added that the Modi government has upgraded the Multi-Agency Centre (MAC) into a platform capable of delivering multi-dimensional results.
The Home Minister said security policies must be formulated by taking into account global instability, energy and resource insecurity, supply chain disruptions, rising radicalisation, and the war of cyber-misinformation.
