National Security Advisor Ajit Doval is visiting China on August 24 to take part in the India-China Special Representative-level talks on the boundary issue with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.
NSA Doval’s visit comes ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s possible visit to India for the BRICS summit in September.
Doval and Wang are expected to hold the 25th round of SR talks on August 25. The two senior officials are the designated special representatives for the boundary talks mechanism, which was established in 2003 to address the boundary dispute.
Wang had last met Doval in June this year when he visited India for a meeting of the BRICS NSAs.
The talks are crucial as they are being held ahead of the much-awaited visit of the Chinese President to India to attend the BRICS summit in New Delhi on September 12-13. While China is yet to confirm President Xi’s participation to the summit, officials on both sides are optimistic about his participation.
Chinese President’s possible visit to India could also give an opportunity for a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the summit.
PM Modi and president Xi had last met in August 2025 on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Tianjin.
