The Union Home Ministry has removed Jantar Mantar from the list of designated protest sites in Delhi amid demonstrations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Based on the recommendations of a committee constituted by the Home Ministry, three new locations have been designated for protests and public demonstrations in the national capital.
The designated venues are Ramlila Maidan, Burari Maidan, and CBD Maidan in East Delhi. The notification recognising Jantar Mantar as a designated protest site has been revoked. Jantar Mantar had served as a prominent venue for protests and demonstrations for nearly 33 years. Before Jantar Mantar became a major protest site, the Boat Club near India Gate was used for public demonstrations.
