As the U.S. midterm elections drawing closer, campaigning is intensifying as candidates and party leaders work to win over voters across the country. Economic issues, including inflation, energy prices and the cost of living, remain key concerns shaping the election debate.
With just weeks to go before the midterm elections, US President Donald Trump has hit the campaign trail with a 32-day rally blitz aimed at boosting Republican candidates across the country.
Speaking in Texas, Trump defended his administration’s record, insisting the government and the economy are performing strongly despite slipping approval ratings.
“I think inflation’s very real, but they’re the ones that caused the inflation, I’m the one that’s bringing it down. And we have to be able to get that word out somehow. Because they’re using the word affordability so whenever we go after them, like we announce all these great numbers, the best numbers in the history of any president, there’s never been any president that’s gotten 21 trillion dollars invested in our country,” he said.
The Texas stop also doubled as a show of support for Republican candidate Ken Paxton, with Trump urging workers to back the former state attorney general in the November vote.
Trump sought to make energy a centrepiece of his campaign, highlighting increased oil supplies and promising that fuel costs would fall in the months ahead.
He said his administration’s strategy would help stabilize energy markets while strengthening America’s energy security. But Trump’s optimistic campaign message is colliding with growing voter anxiety over household expenses.
A new media poll shows approval of Trump’s handling of the cost of living has fallen sharply, while most Americans blame his policies for persistently high prices.
Many voters say inflation continues to squeeze family budgets, with diesel and fuel costs remaining a key concern for businesses, transport operators and consumers alike.
As campaigning intensifies ahead of the November midterms, economic issues remain at the center of the political debate. With voters closely watching inflation, fuel and diesel prices, both parties are expected to focus their messages on the cost of living and the broader economic outlook. The coming weeks are likely to test whether campaign promises on energy and the economy can translate into support at the ballot box.
