Delhi Government has announced to double the fixed monthly incentive for ASHA workers from three thousand rupees to six thousand rupees. This decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta in New Delhi yesterday. She said that the increase in the monthly incentive was an important step towards recognising ASHA workers’ contribution and ensuring their financial security.

Ms Gupta said that it will boost their enthusiasm for their work and help them continue their services. There are six thousand 725 ASHA workers currently working in Delhi. Generally, each ASHA worker is associated with around two thousand people or 400 families.

Meanwhile, Dellhi Government has also decided to built hostels for 10,000 students studying in colleges and universities across the national capital. Delhi Chief Minister said that construction of hostels is already under way in some Delhi government universities and institutions.

She said that the scope of the initiative will now be expanded in view of the growing need. Ms Gupta said that the government will also conduct a survey of colleges that have sufficient space for hostel construction. She said that the process of constructing hostels will be expedited after suitable locations are identified
