In the wake of incessant rainfall triggering devastating landslides, severe flash floods and widespread waterlogging across the State, the Nagaland Government has directed all District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) to remain on high alert and closely monitor the evolving situation by activating their respective District Emergency Operations Centres (DEOCs).
The Government instructed DDMAs to immediately initiate emergency measures, with the highest priority being the protection of lives and public safety.
Authorities have been asked to evacuate residents from severely waterlogged, low-lying and landslide-prone areas, particularly unstable embankments and riverbanks.
DDMAs have also been directed to assess the availability of essential commodities, including food supplies, fuel and medicines, and ensure adequate stocks are maintained throughout the emergency period.
They have been asked to keep communication systems operational and establish rapid communication networks wherever required.
They have also been instructed to issue public advisories identifying alternate routes and restrict non-essential travel on vulnerable, landslide-prone stretches.
The State Government has advised the public to avoid fishing, swimming or venturing near swollen rivers, overflowing drains and riverbanks, where the risk of accidents remains high.
It has also appealed to citizens not to circulate unverified information or rumours on social media, as such misinformation could create unnecessary panic.
