In a landmark moment, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu flagged off the inaugural flight on the Daman–Delhi–Daman route from the newly operational NAMO Airport in Daman on Friday.
The foundation stone for the civil terminal was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 25, 2023, and the airport was inaugurated by the Prime Minister on June 5 this year.
Developed by the UT Administration at a cost of ₹124 crore on a 25-acre site, the terminal has received ₹88 crore reimbursement from the Ministry of Civil Aviation towards the project. Spread across 3,700 square metres, it can currently handle 14 ATR flights a day and has an annual passenger handling capacity of 3.67 lakh.
The event marking the commencement of flight operations was attended by senior officials of the UT Administration, Airports Authority of India (AAI), Alliance Air, the Indian Coast Guard, and local residents of Daman.
