The United States has announced a 25 per cent tariff on several Brazilian imports, escalating trade tensions between the two countries after a year-long investigation into Brazil’s trade policies.
The new tariffs will take effect from July 22 and cover a range of Brazilian goods. However, key products including beef, coffee and certain aircraft parts have been exempted.
The United States said the tariffs were imposed under Section 301 of the Trade Act, alleging unfair trade practices and barriers affecting American businesses.
Washington said negotiations remain open. However, Brazil’s government has rejected the allegations and condemned the tariff decision, calling it unjustified.
