The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for thunderstorms and rainfall conditions today over parts of Delhi, Haryana, and Chandigarh. Rain lashed over various areas of the National Capital last night, bringing relief from humidity and intense heat waves. According to the Weather Agency, Bihar, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh are likely to experience thunder squalls today with wind speeds reaching gusting to 80 kilometres per hour.
Similar weather conditions will also prevail over Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Karnataka. Heavy rainfall is expected during the day over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Kerala, Mahe, Bihar, Odisha, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Uttarakhand and West Uttar Pradesh. Heat wave conditions are likely to persist today in parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, West Rajasthan and Vidarbha. According to the Met Department, hot and humid weather conditions are likely over Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
