The swearing-in ceremony of the new Assam Government was held today in Guwahati. Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma took oath as the Chief Minister of Assam for a second consecutive term. With today’s swearing-in, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma became the first non-Congress leader in Assam’s history to assume the office of Chief Minister for a second term. The swearing-in ceremony also marks the formation of the third successive NDA government in the State.
Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office to Sarma at a grand ceremony held at the Veterinary Ground in the Khanapara area in Guwahati.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with several Union Ministers and senior BJP leaders, attended the swearing-in ceremony. Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Sarbananda Sonowal and Nitin Gadkari, along with BJP national president Nitin Nabin, were present at the event.
Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from several NDA-ruled states, along with many distinguished guests and industrialists, also attended the ceremony.
