West Bengal’s post-poll tensions escalated sharply on Wednesday night after Chandranath Rath, a close aide and personal assistant to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, was shot dead in a suspected targeted attack in Madhyamgram, in North 24 Parganas district. Chandranath Rath, who had been working with Adhikari for several years, was attacked on a public road in the Doharia area. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The killing has sent shockwaves through political circles and triggered fresh tension in the region.
Suvendu Adhikari — who recently won the Assembly elections from Nandigram and Bhabanipur — reached the hospital where his slain aide was kept shortly after the incident. Reacting to the killing, he termed the attack a “cold-blooded murder” and alleged that his aide had been deliberately targeted.
