Indira Gandhi International Airport has emerged as the fifth busiest aviation hub in the Asia Pacific region in 2025, according to data released by aviation analytics firm OAG.

The airport, operated by a GMR Airports Limited-led consortium through Delhi International Airport Limited, recorded 46.18 million one-way departure seats and moved from ninth position in 2019 to fifth in 2025.

With this growth, Delhi Airport has surpassed major international hubs including Singapore Changi Airport, Incheon International Airport and Suvarnabhumi Airport.

According to the rankings, the top five busiest airports in the Asia Pacific by seats in 2025 are Tokyo International Airport, Shanghai Pudong International Airport, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, Beijing Capital International Airport and Delhi Airport.

CEO of Delhi International Airport Limited Videh Kumar Jaipuriar said the development reflects the strength of India’s aviation growth and the airport’s hub development strategy. He said expansion by airline partners, particularly IndiGo and Air India, along with strong domestic connectivity and growing international networks, has strengthened Delhi’s position as a key gateway between Asia and Europe.

Delhi Airport’s capacity growth has been driven by expanding connectivity to East and Southeast Asia and Europe. Airlines also added 11 new destinations over the past year, including Bhuj, Trichy, Jorhat, Purnia, Navi Mumbai and Rewa domestically, and Manila, Krabi, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Manchester internationally.
