Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has accused the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, of spreading misinformation and making baseless allegations. In a social media post, Mr Goyal said, Mr Gandhi is attempting to mislead and provoke the farming community through fake narratives.
The Union Minister said that the government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently prioritised the welfare and prosperity of farmers through various schemes and policy decisions. He also asserted that, in the recent trade deal with the United States, the interests of the country’s farmers have been fully protected.
Mr Goyal noted that several Indian agricultural products, including Basmati rice, fruits, spices, tea and marine items, are expected to gain improved market access, which will boost exports and enhance farmers’ incomes. He also said that expanded opportunities for cotton textile exports will increase cotton demand and benefit cotton growers.
The Minister further reassured that the trade agreement will create new export opportunities and lead to higher demand and better prices for agricultural produce. Mr Goyal reiterated that the government remains committed to protecting farmers’ interests and ensuring their long-term prosperity.
