India is set to experience a renewed phase of active winter weather from January 22 as a western disturbance intensifies over the western Himalayan region and adjoining plains.
After brief relief from cold wave conditions, residents of Delhi and the National Capital Region are likely to face colder weather again. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast gusty winds and light rain, which are expected to cause a dip in temperatures today.
The IMD also said that foggy conditions are likely during morning hours over Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh from January 24 to 26, with reduced visibility affecting commuting and transportation services. Cold wave conditions continue in Jammu and Kashmir, while isolated areas of Uttarakhand have reported ground frost.
Himachal Pradesh may see relief from its prolonged dry spell, with the Shimla weather office forecasting a “very active” western disturbance bringing rain to the plains and snowfall to higher reaches from Wednesday night.
Rajasthan witnessed cold and dry weather over the past 24 hours, with fog at several places. A change in weather is expected from January 23 as a western disturbance becomes active, bringing a spell of rain to most districts of the state.
In the northeastern region, the IMD reported a continuing dry spell across Sikkim following the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon in October last year. The Gangtok weather office confirmed persistently dry conditions across the state.
