The Supreme Court has taken up the Aravalli hills redefinition issue on its own and will hear the case on December 29 after growing concerns and protests.
The matter will be heard by a three-judge bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, along with Justices J.K. Maheshwari and Augustine George Masih.
The case has been listed as
“Definition of Aravalli Hills and Mountain Ranges and Related Issues.”
The top court acted on a suo motu basis after political parties, environmental groups and civil society members raised concerns over the revised definition of the Aravalli hills.
They worry the change could allow illegal mining and reduce groundwater, along with other problems.
