The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Friday approved a landmark bill proposing to raise the foreign direct investment (FDI) limit in insurance companies to 100%, marking a major reform aimed at strengthening the sector.
The Cabinet also cleared the proposal to conduct Census 2027, the world’s largest administrative and statistical exercise, with an allocation of ₹11,718.24 crore.
Briefing the media, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said Census 2027 will be the 16th census in the series and the 8th since Independence. He added that it will be India’s first-ever digital census.
