U.S. President Donald Trump said he may impose severe tariffs on fertilizer imports from Canada if deemed necessary.
President Trump indicated that targeting Canadian fertilizer could help boost domestic production. He had previously exempted certain fertilizers, including potash and urea, from reciprocal tariffs on Canada, while products compliant with the North American trade deal from his first term are subject to lower rates.
In addition, President Trump threatened to impose an additional 5% tariff on Mexico, accusing the country of violating a water-sharing treaty.
