Tensions have flared again between Thailand and Cambodia, with Thailand launching air strikes along the disputed border, after both nations accused each other of violating a ceasefire agreement brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to a statement from the Thai military, at least one Thai soldier was killed and four others wounded in fresh clashes that erupted around two areas in the easternmost province of Ubon Ratchathani.
Cambodia’s defence ministry, meanwhile, said the Thai military had carried out dawn attacks on its forces at two locations following days of provocative actions. The statement added that Cambodian troops had not retaliated.
The simmering tension along the border has occasionally escalated into skirmishes, including a weeklong artillery exchange in 2011, despite ongoing efforts to peacefully resolve overlapping claims.
