The United States has announced a fresh round of Iran-related sanctions targeting 27 companies, 6 individuals and 22 vessels, as the Trump administration intensifies economic pressure on Tehran. The State Department also announced sanctions against 10 entities, 6 individuals and 5 vessels involved in the trade of Iranian-origin petroleum or petrochemical products. The Treasury warned that violations could result in civil or criminal penalties for U.S. and foreign persons. The department said sanctions were intended not merely to punish but to bring about a positive change in behaviour, while warning that it would continue to monitor and disrupt attempts to evade restrictions.
President Donald Trump said on October 8, that the United States will not launch an attack on Iran before U.S. midterm congressional elections in November. President Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social that U.S. is having productive discussions with Iran and will not be attacking Iran at any time prior to the Midterm Elections to be held on November 3. He said the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports remains in effect and that oil is flowing through the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on October 8 that Iran could reply within days to a U.S. response to Iran’s proposal under which the Strait of Hormuz could be reopened within 7 days if necessary conditions were met. Iran’s state media reported on October 8 that Tehran would not abandon uranium enrichment or hand over its uranium stockpile, citing the head of the country’s Atomic Energy Organization. Iranian authorities have said that Tehran could agree to dilute its most highly enriched uranium.
