The National Film Awards are the country’s most prestigious honors for excellence in cinema. Instituted in 1954, they are conferred every year by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Over seven decades, the awards have recognized outstanding creative and technical achievement in Indian filmmaking across three categories: feature films, non-feature films, and writing on cinema.
This year, the awards are being presented in Ekta Nagar (formerly Kevadia), Gujarat. This marks a significant shift as the event is being held outside New Delhi for the first time, moving away from its traditional venue at Vigyan Bhawan.
Breaking a decades-long tradition, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting plans to host future editions in various states, emphasizing the theme of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.”
