Foreign students in Australia will not be allowed to bring their partners and children to accompany them while they study as the country is set to tighten migration rules. The Australian government is expected to bring a wider immigration policy aimed at bringing down net overseas migration, with the country’s Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke due to outline the measures in a speech at the National Press Club.
The country is seeking to bring down the net overseas migration numbers from about 300,000 to 225,000 by 2028. Presently, spouses and partners of international students can work in Australia, although the number of hours they are permitted to work varies depending on the student’s course of study. The student can also bring dependent children under the age of 18..
