The toll of the disaster following flash floods and landslides along the Nepal-Tibet border continues to rise. According to Nepal’s disaster agency, 626 people have died and 2,426 are missing in Nepal so far. According to China’s state-run news agency, Xinhua, seven people have died in Tibet, and 554 are still missing. This brings the total death toll in the Nepal-Tibet border region to 633, while at least 2,980 people are still missing. Nepal’s disaster agency reported 517 foreigners missing on Friday, while Chinese authorities reported 260 foreigners missing on the Tibetan side. The number of missing people is constantly changing following the disaster and may change further as relief and rescue operations continue. Indian citizens, along with foreign nationals, tourists, and pilgrims, have also been affected by the Nepal tragedy. According to the Nepal Tourism Board, 622 tourists, including 473 foreign tourists, are still missing. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also provided information regarding Indian citizens. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 320 Indian citizens are still missing, while 84 Indians have been rescued. This includes 21 Kailash Mansarovar pilgrims from Tamil Nadu who have reached Delhi. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, approximately 400 Indians are safe on the Chinese side, and 149 have crossed the India-Nepal border. India has offered all possible assistance to Nepal, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). However, amid the rescue efforts, the threat of new floods also looms. Rescue operations in some areas have been hampered by debris lakes and potential new floods. Relief and rescue operations are also ongoing in China’s Tibet region.
