Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has stated that the ambition of the government is to create a society where modern progress is anchored in civilisational heritage. Addressing the CD Deshmukh Lecture 2026 in New Delhi, the Union Finance Minister said India’s destiny is to become prosperous without becoming consumerist, wealthy without becoming materialistic and globally successful without losing its civilisational character. She added that India’s aim is to become a developed civilisation that combines prosperity with trusteeship, enterprise with responsibility, innovation with civilisational wisdom, global leadership with cultural rootedness, environmental stewardship with economic progress, and individual success with collective welfare.
