Political Affairs Committee today reaffirmed its demand for the appointment of a ministerial-level interlocutor to advance the Naga political peace process and resolved to engage stakeholders in preparing a roadmap towards an early and inclusive solution.

The development comes in the backdrop of the PAC meeting chaired by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio in Kohima.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, PAC Member Secretary and Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs K.G. Kenye said the committee reviewed the resolutions adopted during its meetings held on September 12, 2024, and in September 2025 at Rhododendron Hall, Chümoukedima.

After reviewing developments over the past 24 months, the PAC resolved to maintain its earlier stand and begin the process of engaging stakeholders. Mr Kenye said the committee was working on a roadmap that would guide future efforts towards resolving the protracted Naga political issue.

Responding to queries, Mr. Kenye confirmed that the PAC had reiterated its demand for the Centre to appoint a ministerial-level interlocutor. He added that the Centre had earlier assured state government that it will  consider the demand.

The Minister said the government will first prepare groundwork before initiating consultations.

On the recent statement issued by Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation seeking clarity on legislative powers before August 15, Mr. Kenye said the matter did not come up for discussion during PAC meeting.

On reports regarding developments involving the breakaway of NSCN Eastern Flank from NSCN-IM, he said the government is closely monitoring the situation but will refrain from making any comment until facts and ground realities are verified.
