Iran has introduced a new regulatory mechanism to control maritime traffic through the strategic Strait of Hormuz, requiring vessels to secure prior authorization before transiting the waterway.
According to Iran’s state-run Press TV, shipping companies navigating the chokepoint will now receive electronic instructions from an address affiliated with the Persian Gulf Strait Authority. These communications outline updated rules and requirements that all international vessels must follow.
Under the new protocols, ships are strictly required to obtain a transit permit before entering the Strait, one of the world’s most critical routes for global energy supplies. Compliance with the framework is mandatory for all vessels.
Iranian state media described the initiative as “a sovereign governance system” that is now fully operational in the Strait of Hormuz.
