On the issue of uranium, U.S. President Donald Trump said that the United States and Iran would jointly remove uranium from Tehran’s nuclear sites using excavators under any peace deal, before the material is transferred to U.S. territory.
President Trump’s comments elaborated on his claim that Iran had agreed to hand over its enriched uranium. The U.S. leader regularly uses the term “nuclear dust” to refer to Iran’s stock of enriched uranium, which Washington accuses Tehran of hoarding in order to make an atomic bomb.
His remarks on Iran came during a speech to Turning Point USA in Arizona. He said Washington would help Tehran dig it out from nuclear facilities hit in U.S. strikes last year.
The U.S. President also said he expects to reach a peace deal with Iran “very quickly,” as most of the points are already negotiated and agreed to.
Meanwhile, Iran has denied agreeing to transfer its enriched uranium to the United States. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei told state TV that Iran’s enriched uranium is not going to be transferred anywhere, adding that transferring uranium to the United States has not been an option.
Iran is believed to possess more than 900 pounds of uranium enriched up to 60% purity. The issue of Iran’s nuclear program has been one of the thorniest issues in U.S.-Iran negotiations.
