Star batter Smriti Mandhana has been appointed captain of the Indian women’s cricket team, succeeding Harmanpreet Kaur, who stepped down on Tuesday.
Mandhana, who has been part of the national setup since 2013, has previously led India in 18 T20Is and four ODIs. The 29-year-old has also enjoyed success as a leader in domestic and franchise cricket, guiding Royal Challengers Bengaluru to WPL titles in 2024 and 2026. Mandhana said leading India was a special honour and thanked the BCCI, selectors and her teammates for trusting her with the responsibility.
