Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred the ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’, Seychelles’ highest distinction for leadership in environmental conservation and sustainable development. The award, which was presented by President of Seychelles Patrick Herminie, acknowledges PM Modi’s long-standing push for sustainable growth and his green vision.
The honour has been conferred upon Prime Minister for his green leadership, and efforts towards advancing the interests of developing countries and his longstanding commitment towards promoting Blue Economy, climate action, sustainable management of ocean resources, and developmental aspirations of Small Island Developing States.
PM Modi thanked the people and the government of Seychelles after being conferred the ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’. He dedicated the award to the nations fighting against the challenge of climate change and considers environmental protection their responsibility towards future generations.
This recognition is the latest in a series of such honours bestowed upon Prime Minister for promoting sustainable development, including the Agricola Medal by FAO, Seoul Peace Prize and the UN Champion of the Earth Award.
The honour underscores the importance attached by Seychelles to India’s growing role as a trusted partner in supporting capacity building, environmental action, sustainable development initiatives, and advancing shared priorities across the Indian Ocean Region.
Over the years, Prime Minister Modi has pushed climate action beyond speeches and summit declarations. His focus has been on turning ideas into action. Prime Minister Modi has consistently emphasised that the fight against climate change cannot be won by governments alone. He called upon people across the world to make sustainable living a way of life.
