U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday said a preliminary deal with Iran has been signed and that the text of the deal would be released soon after a formal signing on Friday.

Trump said a preliminary deal to end the war with Iran has already been signed and suggested that details of the agreement are set to be published “pretty soon.” Trump also said that ships were again moving through the Strait of Hormuz and that the vital oil route would be “completely open” by Friday, adding later that he did not “think we will need much help” keeping the waterway open.

Trump also said Iran had agreed “to never have a nuclear weapon!” in a Truth Social post on Tuesday, dismissing reports that the United States was paying Iran $300 million as fake news. The agreement under discussion involves a $300 billion reconstruction fund—not $300 million—to be paid for by neighbouring Gulf states.

U.S. officials said the agreement had been signed electronically by Trump, Vance, and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

Senior U.S. officials said the MOU will provide a structure for how the U.S.–Iran relationship will operate in the future, adding that the deal will extend a ceasefire for another 60 days, during which the sides will negotiate details of a final agreement.

Iran has said the deal requires a full cessation of hostilities, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel would keep its forces in southern Lebanon and would retain the right to respond to Hezbollah attacks.
