Monsoon has officially begun in Mizoram from today, according to the forecast issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), New Delhi. Officials have urged the public to remain cautious and vigilant as the rainy season sets in across the state. The monsoon has arrived six days earlier than usual in Mizoram and other Northeastern states, as well as in Kerala, this year. Speaking on the development, IMD Aizawl Director Pu Sudheer Kumar Dwivedi said the monsoon generally begins in June, but experts had predicted its onset on 26 May this year. Pu Sudheer Kumar Dwivedi explained that the arrival of the monsoon is determined through scientific observation and analysis, including wind patterns from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, along with rainfall activity. Based on these studies, the IMD officially announced the onset of the monsoon, he added. IMD Director also warned that Mizoram remains highly prone to landslides during the monsoon season. He urged residents to exercise caution and advised vehicle owners and drivers to remain particularly careful while travelling during periods of heavy rain.
