Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday announced that India and Italy have decided to take their bilateral relations to a special strategic level. Both sides adopted the Joint Action Plan 2025-29 to boost cooperation, aiming to push bilateral trade rapidly towards 20 billion euros, with over 800 Italian companies actively contributing to India’s growth.
Addressing a joint press meet with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rome on Wednesday, PM Modi also noted that India and Italy will extend their win-win partnership to third countries and work together on projects in Africa. Both nations declared terrorism a serious threat to humanity and emphasized that responsible democracies must take concrete action, not just condemn it.
Further, Prime Minister Modi said India and Italy will jointly follow the principle of “Design and Develop in India and Italy, and Deliver for the World.” Combining Italy’s design excellence with India’s scale, talent and affordable innovation, both nations will partner across fashion, fintech, leather, logistics, mobility and manufacturing for the benefit of humanity.
In her address, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni hailed the historic strengthening of Italy-India ties, declaring the two nations closer than ever before. Meloni described the ongoing high-level visit as the apex of a shared path, elevating bilateral relations to a Special Strategic Partnership, the highest level ever achieved.
She noted that the partnership is now expressing its fullest potential, backed by three Italy-India Business Forums in the past year and over seven meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Italian Prime Minister also described Prime Minister Modi’s visit as an honour that opens a new page in India-Italy relations. She said both nations are writing a long book together and will continue this journey with “Parishram” constant hard work and commitment calling it the key to success.
