Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls currently undertaken in Mizoram From : Isaac Zoramsanga Copy Editor (RNU), Akashvani News, Aizawl Date : 19.05.2026 Phone : 8131823773 The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls, currently being undertaken in a phased manner across the country, has officially commenced in Mizoram as well, Chief Electoral Officer Dr Lalrozama said on Monday.
Addressing the inaugural session of a one-day training programme on SIR held at the SP Conference Hall here, the CEO stressed the need for collective efforts to fulfil the expectations of both the public and the Election Commission of India (ECI). The training programme was organised for Election Officers, Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) and District Level Master Trainers from across Mizoram. Dr Lalrozama said utmost care and caution would be required during the revision process as officials would be dealing directly with the Electoral Rolls. He urged the officers to work with sincerity, precision and vigilance so that genuine citizens of Mizoram are able to exercise their voting rights without difficulties arising from mistakes or omissions in the rolls. Highlighting the important role of Block Level Officers (BLOs), the CEO said they would serve as the backbone of the revision exercise and should therefore be utilised effectively. He also underscored the significance of political parties in ensuring transparent and credible Electoral Rolls and appealed for the effective involvement of Block Level Agents nominated by political parties.
The Election Commission of India had announced the Special Intensive Revision exercise on May 14, 2026, following which preparations in Mizoram were initiated immediately. The training programme, divided into morning and afternoon sessions, was chaired by Joint Chief Electoral Officer Ethel Rothangpuii. Resource persons included Mamit Election Officer Lalnunfela Chawngthu, RD Deputy Director Lalthakima, Khawzawl Election Officer Timothy R. Lalhmangaiha and Assistant Commissioner-cum-Assistant Chief Electoral Officer F. Lalnisai. Meanwhile, Garima Gupta, IAS (AGMUT 2004), who has been appointed by the Election of Commission as Mizoram CEO on May 7, took the charge from Lalrozama on Monday afternoon.
