Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the historical trust between India and Jordan, combined with emerging economic opportunities, is paving the way for a strong long-term partnership between the two countries.
Addressing business leaders, the Prime Minister said start-ups from India and Jordan can collaborate in areas such as digital public infrastructure, fintech, healthtech and agritech, creating new opportunities through cooperation in these sectors.
Highlighting the pharmaceutical sector, PM Modi said cooperation beyond fertilisers, including medicines and medical devices, would be beneficial not only for both countries but also for the world. He said Jordan could emerge as a reliable hub for West Asia and Africa, while India brings trust in areas such as generics, vaccines, Ayurveda and wellness.
The Prime Minister described infrastructure as essential for fast development and appreciated King Abdullah II’s vision for next-generation infrastructure and railway construction in Jordan. He assured that Indian companies are capable and eager to contribute to this vision. PM Modi also welcomed the Jordanian leader’s emphasis on infrastructure reconstruction in Syria, saying companies from both countries can work together to meet these needs.
Speaking on the broader India–Jordan partnership, PM Modi said India is currently Jordan’s third-largest trading partner but stressed that the focus should be on building a long-term relationship, not just trade numbers. Referring to historical trade routes from Gujarat to Europe via Petra, he said reviving such links would support future prosperity.
