Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today said that the Sceptre gifted by Thiruvaduthurai Adheenam will be sanctified by 20 adheenams from the State and will be placed near the seat of the Lok Sabha Speaker in the New Parliament building on the 28th of this month by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking to the media in Chennai, she said this is to signify the memorable event which happened during Independence day in 1947.
The Minister said that this was a unique event which gives Tamil Nadu a special place. She said the sceptre does not signify monarchy, instead it signifies the just rule for the people of the country. To a question on the stand taken by the opposition parties, Finance Minister said that Parliament is the temple of democracy and everyone should give the due respect and appealed to the Opposition parties to reconsider the boycott. Mrs Sitharaman pointed out that political parties who were quick to verbally abuse the President who hailed from a tribal community were now talking about the importance of the President in the inauguration of the Parliament.
