Having completed the landfall process, Cyclone Biparjoy will keep moving northeastwards as it gradually weakens. In spite of the de-intensification, the system will continue to impact the regional weather for the next 24-48 hours, triggering extremely heavy rain over parts of Northern Gujarat and Southern Rajasthan.
According to the bulletin of IMD, heavy rain accompanied with moderate thunderstorms with a maximum surface wind speed of 41 to 61 kmph very likely in the districts of Kutch, Devbhoomi Dwarka Jamnagar, and Morbo during next three hours.
Considering the seriousness of this cyclonic storm, more than one lakh people across the state including Kutch were evacuated to safe places.
Cyclone Biparjoy, which hit the coast of Kutch after swirling in the Arabian Sea for more than ten days, has engulfed the coastal areas including Jakhau, Nalia, Mundra, Mandvi, Kandla, and entire districts of the border region. Several trees and electricity poles and hoardings were uprooted as a result of the storm. According to the report received today, it is expected that the intensity of the depression will ease by the afternoon on today.
Meanwhile, other agencies, including teams from NDRF and SDRF, played a key role in disaster management. Electricity supply to most areas has been shut down by the system to avoid possible damage due to rain and wind speed.
