Rescue operation is in the final stage to evacuate 41 workers trapped in the collapsed Silkyara Tunnel in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. All resources have been deployed for the safe retrieval of individuals. Medical teams are on standby for health check-ups. In case of emergency workers can be airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami over the phone and took stock of the relief and rescue operations. On the other hand, Union Minister of State for Roads and Highways General VK Singh and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reached the incident site and inspected and reviewed the ongoing rescue operation.
On the other hand, NDRF Director General Atul Karwal said that the workers are expected to come out today itself if there is no hindrance in the rescue operation. It may be recalled that a part of the under-construction tunnel from Silkyara to Barkot collapsed due to a landslide on the 12th of this month, following which 41 laborers were trapped inside.
