The ninth International Day of Yoga will be celebrated across the globe tomorrow. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the Yoga Day programme at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The theme of Yoga Day this year is -‘Yoga For Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’.
PM Modi has, in his Mann Ki Baat programme on All India Radio, urged listeners many times over the years to take up Yoga for their physical and mental well-being. In his recent Mann Ki Baat address, the Prime Minister had said the 21st of June is a great opportunity for people who are not connected with Yoga to take up the practice.
In his address at the United Nations General Assembly in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested an International Day of Yoga on 21st June. It received support of 177 countries and since then International Day of Yoga is being celebrated across the globe in every country.
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) also proclaimed 21st June as the International Day of Yoga in their resolution. Since 2015, the International Day of Yoga has evolved into a mass movement for health, around the world.
