In Nepal, at least 128 people were killed and 140 injured when a magnitude-6.4 earthquake shook northwestern part of the country late last night, officials said. They have cautioned that the death toll is likely to rise. The earthquake hit near midnight, when people were sleeping. As per reports, Jajarkot and West Rukum have dealt the most damage. Out of the total casualties, 92 individuals lost their lives in Jajarkot, while 36 fatalities were reported in Rukum West.
Nepal’s Prime Minister, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, said he has instructed the Army and national police forces to be mobilized for rescue and relief operations.The Home Ministry of Nepal said, reports of injuries and damage to property are coming from other districts too, including Dailekh, Salyan, and Rolpa districts.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has left for the earthquake-affected area, accompanied by a team of health workers, to provide immediate rescue, search, and relief efforts. His press advisor conveyed that the Prime Minister left for Jajarkot, taking along with him a medical team consisting of 16 members from the Nepali Army.
