Election Commission has announced single phase Assembly elections in Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura. For 60 member Tripura Assembly, the poling will be held on 16th of February while 60 member Meghalaya and Nagaland Assemblies will go to poll on 27th of February.
The counting of votes will take place on 2nd of March for all these States. The notification for Tripura Assembly will be issued on 21st January while Meghalaya and Nagaland on 31st January.
With the announcement of poll schedule, the Model Code of Conduct has come into effect. Announcing the poll schedule, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar today said that the Commission is committed to ensure free, fair and violence-free elections in these three States.
He said, of the total polling stations as many as 376 polling stations will be fully managed by women staff. All the polling stations will have assured minimum basic facilities like drinking water and toilets. The election commission is also insisting of permanent structures of drinking water, electricity and ramps in the schools so that the Commission need not review time and again when the elections are conducted. Instructions have been given to enforcement agencies to curb the flow of cash in these states. Paramilitary forces have already arrived in these three poll bound states.
