External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar held high-level meetings in Brussels on Tuesday, strengthening India’s multifaceted strategic partnership with the European Union.
During his visit, Dr. Jaishankar met with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, where the two leaders discussed enhancing parliamentary engagement, anchored in shared democratic values and pluralism. He also welcomed Metsola’s positive outlook on advancing cooperation in trade, technology, and security.
The Minister also met European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maros Sefcovic. Both sides acknowledged the progress in negotiations for a comprehensive, balanced, and meaningful India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), emphasizing its potential to significantly elevate the evolving strategic partnership.
In another key engagement, Dr. Jaishankar held talks with European Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jozef Sikela, focusing on deepening cooperation in connectivity projects, the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), green shipping, and clean energy transition.
The meetings highlight India’s sustained efforts to align with the EU on key global priorities while expanding bilateral cooperation across economic and strategic domains.
