Both Houses of Parliament have been adjourned for the day following opposition parties’ protest over the issue of violence in Manipur. When the Lok Sabha reassembled after the first adjournment at 2 PM, opposition parties including Congress, DMK, JD(U), and TMC again trooped into the well, raising slogans against the government. They were demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement over the issue. Amid din, Parliament passed The Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill, 2023 after a brief discussion. As pandemonium continued, the Presiding Officer adjourned the House for the day. Earlier, when the House met for the day, similar scenes were witnessed. Opposition members were in the well-raising slogans. Speaker Om Birla tried to run the Question Hour but in vain. Amid ruckus, the Speaker adjourned the House till 2 PM.
In the Rajya Sabha, when the House met after the fourth adjournment at 3:30 PM, opposition members including from Congress, TMC, DMK, Aam Aadmi Party, and Left continued with their sloganeering. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi reiterated that the government is ready for discussion on the Manipur issue and it should be taken up immediately. However, pandemonium continued in the House leading to its adjournment for the day. Earlier, when the House met after the third adjournment at 2:30 PM, opposition members including from Congress, TMC, DMK, Aam Aadmi Party, and Left continued with their sloganeering. Treasury bench members also raised counter slogans. Amid uproar, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar tried to take up Short Duration Discussion on Manipur violence issue. However, opposition continued with their demand to hold discussion under rule 267 by suspending all business immediately and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement over it. As uproar continued, the House was adjourned till 3:30 PM. Earlier, it was briefly adjourned till 2:30 PM, when the House met after the post-lunch session at 2 PM. In the pre-lunch session, when the House reassembled after first adjournment at 12 Noon, opposition parties started sloganeering over the Manipur issue. Amid din, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar tried to run the Question House. As ruckus continued, the House was adjourned till 2 PM.
