Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Prof. S P Singh Baghel has said that the Government has been successful in controlling the growth of the population. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today, Prof. Baghel said that based on the success achieved in the Family Planning Programme the Government has no proposal to implement a new family planning programme, nor to enact any legislation to control or curb population growth in the country.
He noted that 31 out of 36 states have achieved the replacement level fertility of 2.1 or less. Modern Contraceptive usage has increased to 56.5 percent and the crude birth rate declined to 19.5 in 2020. The Minister also informed that activities like awareness through mobile publicity vans, advocacy meetings, saas bahu sammelans, and Nayi Pehel kits distribution have increased awareness of family planning.
