Three Indian and six foreign films are vying for this year’s prestigious ICFT-UNESCO Gandhi Medal at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. The Indian films in the race are The Kashmir Files, Naanu Kusuma, and Saudi Vellakka. Vivek Agnihotri directed The Kashmir Files has been one of the most successful films in India this year. The film, which deals with the issue of the mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Kashmir valley in 1990, is also being screened at IFFI in the Indian Panorama section. The Kannada film Naanu Kusuma, produced and directed by Krishne Gowda, highlights the issue of women’s safety. The third Indian film in the race – Saudi Vellakka is a Malayalam movie directed by Tharun Murthy.
