Prime Minister to review progress of Ganga rejuvenation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Chair the first meeting of National Council for Rejuvenation, Protection and Management of Ganga River in Kanpur on Saturday. He will review progress of work done and deliberate on aspects of cleaning the Ganga.Preparations are in full swing as the city of Kanpur is taking a historic initiative to make Ganga clean and pollution-free. The first meeting of the National Council for Ganga will be held in Kanpur under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday.After the review meeting, it will be decided what needs to be done to further improve the situation of Ganga. As many as 10 union ministers and chief ministers of five states will participate in the meeting to review Ganga cleanliness work executed over the last five years.
Prime Minister Modi will also visit an exhibition at Chandra Shekhar Azad University. Meanwhile, preparations at Atal Ghat at the Kanpur barrage are in place.The Prime Minister will commute by boat from Atal Ghat to Sisamau Nala. More than 14 crore liters of sewage water used to fall into the Ganges in this 128 year old drain but now it has been completely closed.Strong security arrangements have been made in the city in view of PM`s visit to Kanpur. Namami Gange Programme`, is an Integrated Conservation Mission, approved in June 2014 with budget outlay of Rs. 20,000 Crore to accomplish the twin objectives of effective pollution control and conservation and rejuvenation of River Ganga.
