India has condemned the attack on Panama-flagged commercial vessel MT On Peace off the coast of Oman, earlier today. In a statement, The Ministry of External Affairs said the vessel was struck by a projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Of the 19 crew members, 17 are Indian nationals. 12 crew members were injured, including 11 Indians. With the assistance of Omani authorities, all the injured crew members have been evacuated and are undergoing medical treatment in Khasab, Oman. India thanked the Omani authorities for their valuable support.
The Ministry expressed deep concern on the continuing attacks on commercial shipping in the region and called for an immediate cessation of such attacks in the interest of peace and stability. India stressed that the targeting of commercial shipping, seafarers and civilian infrastructure in the region must end, and navigation and commerce through international waterways must be restored at the earliest.
